The staff at the Sports Development Unit continuously work with their partners to ensure that a varied programme of courses and events are accessible for the people of Carmarthenshire.
Details of such courses and events have been collated and can also be found on the downloadable wall planner. The planner contains details of events aimed at both primary & secondary school aged children and coach education courses aimed at adults.
Coach Education and Training Opportunities
Coaches are crucial to sport in Wales, playing a vital part in ensuring that people are attracted to sport, enjoy sport and remain lifelong participants. There is always a demand for more coaches.
This section will give you an insight into what coaching-related courses are being run in Carmarthenshire and details of who to contact to reserve your place.
Every national governing body of sport in Wales has its own coaching qualifications. Most will have a structured pathway to becoming a coach; this often takes the following format:
- Leaders/Introductory course - an introductory course for beginners, providing you with the basics to help in a club
- Level 1 - assistant coach
- Level 2 - full coach
- Level 3 - full coach with additional responsibilities e.g. mentoring other coaches
- Level 4 - regional coach
- Level 5 - elite coach

Sports Coach UK is an organisation, working in partnership with the SCW, dedicated to providing coaches with backbone of high quality knowledge & sharing of good practice to assist the role of developing talent.
Sports Coach UK courses are for all coaches who want to gain more knowledge in a particular coaching issue.
Safeguarding & Protecting Children: A guide for sports people
This workshop will help you recognise and respond appropriately to issues of child abuse and protection. It will also give you the best-pratice tools you need to ensure you're providing a positive and enriching sporting experience for children.
