A partnership between Carmarthenshire County Council and the Welsh Hockey Union was formalised in 2003.
The main duties of the Hockey Development officer are as follows:-
To plan, implement and monitor the playing, coaching and competitive opportunities in Carmarthenshire, particularly for women and girls to raise overall standards and to increase and improve the standard of active coaches and volunteers in supporting hockey in Carmarthenshire.
- To encourage participation in the game at Primary and Secondary schools through the development of long term coaching, playing and competitive opportunities
- To facilitate the development of players aged U13 and U15 in Carmarthenshire
- To provide a link for interested players to enter a club environment by establishing strong links between the schools, Development Centres and local hockey clubs
- To co-ordinate the establishment hockey clubs, if required
- To promote Welsh Hockey Union Coach Education courses to coaches and potential coaches, and to encourage qualified coaches to become active within the county.
- To initiate programmes of development and excellence for young hockey players from basic skills to national squad players
- To establish hockey forums, where necessary, involving effective partners and sport development agencies within the county
- To provide advice and guidance on club development and funding opportunities to all hockey clubs in the County
- To raise the profile of Hockey throughout the County
