Make your walk in the countryside both safer and more enjoyable by wearing appropriate footwear. Hiking boots are recommended as most of the walks cross farmland and may have sections of steep, poorly drained or rugged terrain.

• Carmarthen weather can be unpredictable; especially in the upland areas so make sure you have with you warm clothing and a waterproof.
• It is good practice to tell a responsible adult where you are going and what time you expect to be back.
• The County Walks leaflets can be used on their own or in conjunction with an up to date Ordnance Survey map (which can give you additional information on the gradients and so on).
• However neither will be of much use without some knowledge of how to use them, so take time to familiarise yourself with their use.
• Learning from a more experienced walker can be a sociable way to learn the skills and avoid the frustrations of getting lost.
• The walks all pass through areas with wonderful wildlife. Some cross areas of special scientific interest or through nature reserves, so if you can, take along a pair of binoculars
