Getting help with housing

Things you need to know ….if you would like to get help with housing.

There are not enough council or housing association homes for everyone who needs one.

Because of the shortage of housing in Carmarthenshire we cannot offer a home to everyone who has a housing problem, but we can work with you to see if we can find you an alternative solution.

Do I really need to move? Are there any other options available for me?

There are a number of other options which may be suitable for you, such as:

  • Affordable housing for sale
  • Renting in the Private Sector
  • Mortgage Rescue
  • Applying for an adaptation or disabled facilities grant
  • Affordable homes to rent with the option to buy in 5 years
  • Exchanging homes with another council or housing association tenant
  • Mediation
  • Supported Housing
  • An Environmental Health Officer to inspect a property to check it’s condition.
  • Housing Benefit advice
  • Bond Scheme

How can I find out what option is best for me?

To find out if applying for a council or housing association home is the right option for you, you can use our on-line self assessment tool.  It shouldn’t take more than 15 minutes to complete, please click on link below:

Link in here…..

If I do apply, will I be re-housed?

We cannot guarantee that we will offer you a home.

FACTS

  • There are almost 8,000 families, couples and single people on the housing register
  • We house about 900 households a year

This means that if you join the housing register you are likely to be waiting a long time before you are offered a home.

If you have a low housing need it is unlikely you will receive an offer of a property at all.

Where do you have council and housing association homes?

If you would like details of:

  • Where we have council and housing association homes
  • The number of properties we have allocated in different areas of the county
  • The number of other people waiting to be housed
