Affordable Housing Policy

Carmarthenshire County Council has adopted the following policy (on 3rd January 2008) to determine who will be given priority for affordable homes for sale.  Priority will be given to people who:

  • are aged 18 or over
  • cannot afford to fund a mortgage that would allow them to buy a home suitable for their needs on the open market and are able to finance the cost of the affordable home through a mortgage and deposit
  • are current residents of Carmarthenshire or  work in Carmarthenshire but live in a neighbouring County
  • have a long-standing local connection with Carmarthenshire.  This is defined as people who have previously lived in Carmarthenshire for a period of at least 10 years; people with parents who live in Carmarthenshire

Priority will also be given to existing council and housing association tenants, and first time buyers.
