The Adult Placement Service offers a choice to people who need support and/or accomodation. A choice in How, Where and with Whom they may wish to spend some time or to live.
What is the Adult Placement Service?
Adult Placement is the provision of accomodation and support for vulnerable adults, over the age of 18. The accomodation is in the homes of specially recruited people living in the community. Carmarthenshire Adult Placement Service approves people for this purpose.
Approved Adult Placement Service (APS) Carers seek to integrate Service Users into their household and provide appropriate support for an agreed fee.
Adult Placement Service will ensure that both the Carer and the Service User receive support and assistance through regular contact, placement review and Carer approval.
How does the Adult Placement Service Work?
Adult Placement can successfully provide support and/or accommodation in a number of ways.
Long Term Placements: People who need support and accomodation live successfully as part of a family for many years, and enjoy the opportunities and experiences that family life can bring.
Short Term Placements/Emergency Placements: Accommodation is provided by APS Carers for a specific time. For example, someone may live in an Adult Placement for a year to build up confidence for more independent living in the future. Or an individual may require accommodation in the event of illness in his/her own family for a few weeks.
Respite Placements: APS Carers provide weekend or short term, planned breaks in order to provide existing carers with respite and to provide service users the opportunity to meet different people.
Additional Support: APS Carers provide support in their own homes during the daytime or evenings on a sessional basis, which will vary according to the needs of the individual and their particular circumstances.
Supported Holidays: APS Carers provide supported holiday packages that are tailored to individual requirements and guarantees the service user a positive experience in the knowledge that their support needs will be met.
Who are the Adult Placement Service Carers?
APS Carers come from all walks of life. Carers can be single, some have families some don't, whilst some are retired. We recruit ordinary people who have the time, commitment and genuine desire to help an adult who needs support and/or accommodation.
No special qualifications are required and it is not necessary to have had any particular work experience.
APS Carers will be patient, consistent, living in a stable home situation, flexible and enthusiastic to learn. If you have these qualities and the kind of home that would be appropriate to share with another adult, then you might well be a suitable carer.
What does becoming a APS Carer involve?
The Adult Placement Service is a carefully structured service in which carers are selected, trained and thoroughly supported. Being a carer is not only a rewarding job but also a very responsible one. This is why the selection process is so thorough. Prospective carers are visited, interviewed and are expected to attend a Training and Preparation course. Part of the assessment process involves taking up of refrences, Criminal Record Bureau check and a G.P. reference. Although this is a formal process, it is necessary to safegaurd the adults who receive a service. All applicants are informed of decisions regarding their suitability or otherwise.
