The Carmarthenshire Energy Agency was established in 2004 and is now part of the Council. The Agency aims to develop sustainable energy projects to combat climate change and boost economic development in the county.
The Agency has adopted a 'seeing is believing' approach and has delivered a number of community-based demonstration projects in the county including the installation of solar panels on 29 community halls. The work of the Agency is featured as one of the five community projects in the Welsh Assembly Government’s DVD ‘Tackling Climate Change Together’.
The Carmarthenshire Energy Agency and Menter Cwm Gwendraeth are currently delivering one of the projects funded under the Rural Development Plan - ‘Zero Carbon Communities’.
This will provide support to communities in the county to tackle climate change at a local level, and will test innovative proposals to develop local energy projects.
The project aims to empower individuals by involving the local community in aspects of planning, decision-making and management of sustainable communities.
Two dedicated development officers will work with communities to undertake feasibility studies to determine which energy efficiency and renewable energy technologies are most appropriate and can be used to move towards carbon neutral ‘hubs’ and address fuel poverty issues.
