The Ecoschools programme is an international initiative which enables sustainable development to be a major part of the life and ethos of schools.
Designed to fit into the curriculum, it’s an award scheme that gets everyone in the school community involved in making the school environment better. In Wales it is administered by Keep Wales Tidy.
During 2008 Carmarthenshire became the first county in Wales to gain 50 Eco-Schools Green flags
There are currently 127 schools in the county registered for the Eco Schools Programme, with a total of 34 schools currently holding the Green Flag award:
- 33 schools at Silver Award stage
- 22 schools at Bronze Award stage
- 49 schools achieved Green Flag Awards
Total of 71 Green Flags awarded in total
