Clinical Waste Collection

The Council provides a free clinical waste collection and disposal service for householders within the County.

What is Clinical Waste?

a)   Any waste which consists wholly or partly of human or animal tissue blood or other bodily fluids, excretions, drugs or other pharmaceutical products, swabs or dressings, syringes, needles or other sharp instruments.

b)   Any other waste arising from medical, nursing, dental, veterinary, pharmaceutical or similar practice, investigation, treatment, care, teaching or research, or in the collection of blood for transfusion.

The Environmental Protection Act makes improper or unsafe handling and disposal of clinical waste punishable by a fine.  If done deliberately, it could be a criminal offence.

Warning - Clinical Waste must never be placed in household waste sacks.

Yellow clinical waste bags and/or boxes or containers are supplied for the safe collection of waste.

Collections can be arranged on a weekly, fortnightly or monthly basis, depending on your requirements.
