The Tywi Centre is a heritage training and information centre based in Llandeilo, Carmarthenshire.  The Centre provides traditional skills training, information and grants relevant to the built, natural and cultural heritage of Wales.

Our programme of short courses covers old building maintenance and repair, conservation and traditional rural trades.  Building with lime, sash window repair, thatching, hedge laying and orchard restoration are just a sample of our courses.  We can also provide you with information and help sheets on traditional building repair, rural trades and skills, biodiversity and cultural heritage.

The Tywi Centre also runs a Heritage Bursary Scheme.  This is a-year long training course for craftsmen and women wanting to achieve an NVQ 3 Heritage in traditional carpentry, plastering, stone masonry or roofing skills.

Through the Carmarthenshire Landscape and Heritage Grant Scheme community groups and landowners can apply for grants to conserve and enhance the rural heritage of Carmarthenshire.  Grants of up to £5,000 to protect biodiversity and the natural environment, and up to £15,000 to promote cultural heritage are available.

We also organise bespoke training so if have a group that you think would benefit from learning more about heritage skills and the Welsh environment contact us to see what we can design for you.   If you want to hold your own training event or meeting at the Tywi Centre, please see our venue hire rates.

At the Tywi Centre we celebrate the heritage of Wales and work to make it better understood and maintained.  Situated in one of the most important historic landscapes in Wales the Centre is in an excellent position to work to develop a better understanding of the landscape and to promote appropriate skills needed to look after it.

The Tywi Centre projects have received funding and support through the Heritage Lottery Fund; the Rural Development Plan for Wales 2007-2013, which is funded by the Welsh Government, and the European Agricultural Fund for Rural Development; Carmarthenshire County Council, The National Trust, and the Countryside Council for Wales.
