One of the main objectives of the UK and Local Biodiversity Action Plans is to 'increase public awareness of, and involvement in, conserving biodiversity' and as such raising awareness is an integral part of the local LBAP process.
Biodiversity conservation involves many sectors of society and although many people are aware of the need to conserve wildllife and their surroundings, they may not alwyas understand or appreciate that it concerns them directly; that their actions can make a difference. Raising awarenesss should be addressed at a number of levels; the general public schools, businesses, agriculture, public service organisations and voluntary organisations.
A short action plan for Raising Awareness and Education has been written, which expands on this topic and sets out how the LBAP partnership aims to raise public awareness about the importance of biodiversity and how it can have a positive effect on other aspects of our lives such as: Health and well being, economy and tourism.
