Youth Service

Our vision is to secure the best possible youth work provision for all young people in Carmarthenshire and to enable young people to achieve their full potential and play a full role in society. To do this, we will provide services for all young people aged 11 – 25, with an emphasis on the 11 – 19 age group.

Our work will be led by the needs of young people and we will enable them to participate in decisions about services that affect the 11-25 age group. This work will be informed by our unique strategic role, working in partnership with other organisations delivering youth support services for Carmarthenshire young people.

Our Purpose

Youth work is an educational activity that supports the personal and social development of young people. Although our work complements and supports formal learning, we also have an integral role within the informal learning that takes place outside of school, college or training time. We will seek to ensure that young people:

  • Are healthy
  • Stay safe
  • Can take part in activities they enjoy
  • Learn new skills and have their achievements recognised and accredited
  • Have opportunities to making a positive contribution to their communities
  • Can re-enter education and training if they have not flourished in a formal school setting
  • Enjoy economic and social well being
  • Take an active part in decisions that affect them

 Our Values

  • That young people choose to be involved with us, not least because they want to relax, meet friends and have fun.
  • That our work is respectful of and responsive to young people’s wider community and cultural identities.
  • That our work is focused on young people as individuals, and that each young person has worth and value for who they are now, not just for what they might become.
  • That our work is concerned with how young people feel, as well as their knowledge, skills, attitudes, values and beliefs.
  • That our work seeks to empower young people to be able to make informed choices about things which affect their lives.
  • That our work is based around mutually respectful and assertive relationships
  • That equality of opportunity is at the heart of youth work.
  • That young people have both rights and responsibilities.
  • That our work is inclusive.
  • That we promote sustainability of communities and individual young people.
  • That we promote global and local citizenship.
  • That young people have a lot to ‘teach’ adults.
  • That our youth workers will strive to continually update and improve their knowledge, skills and abilities for the work.
  • if they have not flourished in a formal school setting
  • Enjoy economic and social well being
  • Take an active part in decisions that affect them
