School Admissions and Transfers

school childrenAdmission to School is not an automatic process and there is a requirement for parents and carers to submit an application to an Admissions Authority by a specified date.

For Community (formerly known as County schools) and for Voluntary Controlled Schools the Admission Authority is Carmarthenshire County Council and not the individual school.

For Voluntary Aided Schools there are different arrangements where the Admission Authority is the Governing Body of the individual school and you should contact the school directly in relation to admission enquiries or applications.

Not getting a place at a school of the parent’s choice can be very upsetting and distressing for the both the parents and the child.

To assist parents and carers and to maximise the possibility of obtaining a place at a  school the Authority has developed an online application form accompanied supported by  documentation to guide parents through the application process.

The links are provided on the top right hand side of this page.

The system will also allow parents to make application for admission to a nursery or primary school for up to five years in advance which will assist schools and the Authority with the forward planning. Whilst early application will not guarantee or give priority to an application it will ensure they meet the deadline date.

I very much hope that you will find the information provided to be of assistance to you and may I take this opportunity to thank you for your interest and say that as an Authority we look forward to welcoming your son or daughter to one of our schools and wish them every success in their studies.
