Carmarthenshire has been successful in securing grant funding of approximately £11m to regenerate rural Carmarthenshire through the second phase of the Rural Development Plan (RDP) for Wales 2007-2013.

The Rural Development Plan (RDP) is a European funded programme designed to support the regeneration of rural areas.

The RDP Programme is being managed by Grŵp Cefn Gwlad in conjunction with Carmarthenshire County Council as lead body.

During the first phase of funding more than £8m of RDP investment was approved to fund a range of support from business advice; environmental enhancements in  key rural settlements;  to grants to improve access to rural services. 

Following on from the success of Phase 1, this phase will see the launch of 7 new schemes to regenerate rural areas of Carmarthenshire.

Here’s a quick summary of our current grant schemes and their objectives:

Supporting Farmers to Diversify
Financial assistance available to help farmers to diversify
into non-agricultural activities.

Strengthening the Tourism Appeal of Rural Carmarthenshire
Financial support to upgrade existing accommodation/facilities, safeguard existing and create new employment opportunities within the tourism sector. We want to encourage the ‘greening’ of tourism operations and assist in extending the season and promoting Carmarthenshire as an all year round, quality destination.

Rural Enterpreneurship
Supporting the growth of micro enterprises,promoting entrepreneurship amongst young people, environmental sustainability mentoring and grants for the conversion of redundant buildings for business purposes.

Improving Carmarthenshire Training
Workshops and seminars for tourist service providers and heritage skills education, training and information provision for the natural and built environment.

Rural Community Inclusion
A package of support is available for communities including mentoring support combined with a community grant that is designed to increase access to
basic services and facilities in rural communities.

Carmarthenshire Landscape & Heritage Grant
The aim is to protect and enhance the area’s natural heritage and promote the local cultural heritage of rural communities.

Innovative Hubs
Promoting economic, social and environmental sustainability within the 5 catchment areas, or ‘Hubs’, of rural Carmarthenshire:
Llandeilo/Llandovery, Newcastle Emlyn/Drefach Felindre, Llanybydder/Lampeter, Whitland/St Clears, and Carmarthen.

Fostering local tourism networks to develop new projects in Carmarthenshire

Life Skills
Working with parents and carers of young children to improve their lifestyle choices

Working on environmental sustainability with business
