Pryd fydd y gwaith yn dechrau

Although we are confident that the work in the early years will begin on time, the dates in later years may change – either by us bringing the work forward or moving it back.

This is because our funding may change and force us to alter the programmes. If this does happen, we will let you know immediately.

What will the work include?

The purpose of the project is to bring every council house up to the Carmarthenshire Homes Standard. This means that, where part of a house does not meet the standard, we will improve it to make sure it does.

We have split the improvement work into four separate work programmes.

  • Internal work
  • Windows and doors
  • Insulation and external finishes
  • Work to gardens

The type of work we will do under each programme is as follows.

Internal work

  • Kitchens (including non-slip flooring)
  • Bathrooms (including a shower and non-slip flooring)
  • Rewiring
  • Gas or oil central heating (including new energy-efficient boilers)
  • Smoke and carbon-monoxide detectors
  • Outside lights
  • Feature fires
  • An extra handrail

Windows and doors

  • uPVC double-glazed windows and doors

Cavity-wall insulation and external finishes

Where we are able to, we will inject cavity-wall insulation and repair the external wall finish – this could include painting or matching the finish to the existing finish on the walls. If we are not able to use cavity-wall insulation, we will use either internal or external cladding (a type of coating).

Work to gardens

Our main concern is to make sure your health and safety is not at risk. So, when we start work on your gardens, we will focus on repairing and improving any paths, railings and steps that could cause an accident.

Just because we are improving our houses, this does not mean that we will be stopping repairing them as we have a duty to do so in the tenancy agreement. However, as we now know when we will be carrying out improvement work, we will not replace parts of the house that can wait until this work begins.
