ANNUAL youth conference promises to raise awareness about employment, training and volunteering in Carmarthenshire.
With just weeks to go before the conference takes place, Carmarthenshire Youth Council has been busy planning workshops and activities for the event at Parc-y-Scarlets on Wednesday, November 16 from 9.30 – 14.30.
Last year’s conference encouraged young people to ‘be bothered and get involved’ with issues such as environment, learning and crime. Over 100 young people attended last year’s event, which took approximately 200 days to plan.
Ainsley, Carmarthenshire Youth Council’s Communications Officer, said: “The Youth Council is hoping to make this year’s conference the best one yet.”
“We have a motivational speech from self-made millionaire Kevin Green, something we’re trying for the first time at one of our conferences, and loads of other great workshops and activities taking place throughout the day.”
Workshops will address the main themes of the conference and challenge young people to think about issues in Carmarthenshire and encourage them to ask questions at an open forum taking place later in the day.
The open forum will be lead by a panel of influential individuals from some of Carmarthenshire’s key organisations: Councillor Meryl Gravell, Matt Morden and Rob Sully from Carmarthenshire County Council, Barry Lyles from Coleg Sir Gar, Mandy Jones from Carmarthenshire Association of Voluntary Services and Adele Gabriel from Rathbone.
Carmarthenshire Youth Council will be tweeting from now till the beginning of the youth conference on their specially created Twitter feed. To follow them log on to www.twitter.com/youth_sirgar or to submit questions that will be answered at the event itself include #makingchoices in your own tweet.
