Youth Development Fund – Grants for Youth Groups
13/10/2010

The Carmarthenshire Youth Grant Panel has £10,000 available to organisations working with young people across Carmarthenshire between the ages of 11 - 25 years old.  The closing date for applications is October 25.  Application packs can be obtained by contacting the Carmarthenshire Association of Voluntary Services (CAVS) on 01267 245555 and fflur@cavs.org.uk or by visiting www.cavs.org.uk.

The Carmarthenshire Youth Grant Panel, made of young people from across the county, have been given £10,000 of the Welsh Assembly Government Youth Service Revenue Grant (allocated to Carmarthenshire Youth Service) to give to organisations with an idea that gives young people new opportunities.  Young people from the Carmarthenshire Youth Council have been nominated to sit on the Grant Panel and will work with CAVS and Carmarthenshire’s Participation Team on setting the criteria, assessing project applications and deciding which projects will receive funding.

The total fund available this year is £10,000, with a maximum of £1,000 per grant being made available to school groups, youth groups and youth organisations.  Projects can be one-off events or ongoing activities, but must benefit the local community or young people in some way.

Projects hoping to secure a revenue grant must meet at least one of the Carmarthenshire Youth Grant Panels 2010 priorities:
 Improve health & wellbeing
 Encourage opportunities for youth participation
 Provide new volunteering opportunities for the youth
 Improve services for young people
 Support young people with a physical or learning disability
 Encourage community citizenship

Carmarthenshire Council’s Youth Participation Officer, Sarah Powell said: “Youth Council members have prepared themselves for their role on the panel by participating in a peer led training course where they’ve explored decision making and communication skills.  They are looking forward to receiving applications and their aim is to ensure that all applicants get a fair assessment and that young people will get the best out of future projects.”

Projects planning on submitting requests for revenue grants should do so by October 25.  To obtain application packs please contact Fflur Hughes on 01267 245555 and fflur@cavs.org.uk or by visiting www.cavs.org.uk.
