Speak up

CARMARTHENSHIRE Youth Council, in partnership with Carmarthenshire Council’s Youth Service and the Children and Young People’s Partnership, will be holding their annual Youth Conference at the Halliwell Centre, Trinity College Carmarthen on Friday 7th November between 9-2pm.

This year’s conference, titled ‘Speak Up’, will be encouraging young people to voice their views on services in Carmarthenshire. Issues such as crime and safety, the environment, education, life long learning and health will be addressed throughout the day where young people will have the opportunity to share their views and ideas during various workshops.

Guest speakers will be present on the day, along with Cllr. Meryl Gravell, Carmarthenshire Council’s leader and Children and Young People’s Champion, who will be launching the Children and Young People’s Plan 2008-11, produced by Carmarthenshire Children and Young People’s Partnership along with the Children and young peoples friendly versions written by children and young people in the county.

Catherine James, Children and Young People’s Manager said:
“The Plan states our core aims, ensuring that the Partnership will work together and put children and young people at the centre of everything we do. Several partners will be joining in the different sessions to find out the young peoples perspectives. It will be a great day.”
Sarah Powell, Carmarthenshire Council’s Youth Participation Officer added:
“Youth conferences in the past have helped the Youth Council and the Youth Service interact with the young people of Carmarthenshire. We hope this year’s conference will be equally as successful and that more young people have their voices heard.”

Any young person/youth organisation interested in attending the event should contact Sarah Powell on: 01269 826274.
