Major maintenance works to Pont Abraham Roundabout are programmed to commence on Tuesday 19th June 2012. The works are being carried out on behalf of the South Wales Trunk Road Agent acting for the Welsh Government.
The main contractor will be Tarmac Limited with Atkins, as the Consulting Engineer, supervising the works.
These essential maintenance works include the waterproofing of two bridge decks that will be carried out, subject to weather conditions, over two weekends.
Lane closures will be in place between 20:00hrs on the Friday and 06:00hrs on the following Monday.
As soon as the waterproofing work is complete the re-surfacing work will follow and be undertaken during nighttime only. This will require road closures on the M4 between junctions 48 and 49 and on the A48 between Pont Abraham and Cross Hands. Signed diversion routes will be in place for when the westbound diversion is in place and similarly for when the eastbound diversion is in place. When the westbound diversion is required it will be established after 22:00hrs to allow for the passage of ferry terminal bound traffic. The eastbound diversion will be established after 20:00hrs. The diversions will be removed by 06:00hrs.
This is a busy junction and unfortunately, due to the nature of the works, road users will experience disruption whilst the works are in progress. Traffic management will be in place to protect the workforce and manage the flow of traffic and every effort will be made to minimise inconvenience to road users.
The works are programmed, subject weather conditions, to be completed by Thursday 19th July 2012.
Additional detailed information/updates will be made available at Traffic Wales, the Welsh Government's traffic information service, www.traffic-wales.com .
