Dementia Awareness Week events

CARMARTHENSHIRE County Council will be highlighting the services it has in place for people with dementia as part of Dementia Awareness Week from May 21.
The local authority has teamed up with its partners, The Alzheimer’s Society, to host a number of informal events throughout the week.
They include a tea and cake afternoon on Wednesday, May 23, at Mynydd Mawr Hospital from 2-4pm, and a vintage-themed tea party ay the Pensioner’s Hall, Ammanford, on Friday May 25, from 1-4pm.
During the week, staff from the council’s health and social care department will be letting people know about the various support services available for people with dementia, and their carers.
One such service is ‘Singing for the Brain’, informal group sessions led by the Alzheimer’s Society where people are encouraged to sing along to a variety of music to draw on their memories of music and song.
Sessions are currently held at CAVS in Carmarthen, Ebenezer Apostolic Community Church in Ammanford and Trallwm Community Hall, Llanelli.
Sessions have also recently been set up at Cwmamman Day Centre for registered service users, and will hopefully be extended to other day centres and care homes throughout Carmarthenshire.
