Christmas countdown at council’s Sheltered Schemes

IT’s been a festive few weeks at the council’s Sheltered Housing Schemes.
Tenants have been supported by their Sheltered Scheme officers to lay on a host of celebration events, including dinners, raffles and bingo.
And at Nantyglo, Pontyberem, they’re not even stopping for Christmas Day – a big Christmas Dinner is planned for tenants and older people in the community to get together and enjoy.
Over the last few weeks, many schemes have been entertained to the voices of local choirs, including the Mynydd Mawr Choir who sang at Bryntawel, and local school choirs who sang at Clos Llanfihangel, Tirynys and Llys Glanymor.
There’s also been table top sales, pantomimes and ‘tinsel and turkey’ trips.
Cllr Tegwen Devichand, Executive Board Member for Housing, said: “It’s been a very busy few weeks for our housing teams, especially the sheltered scheme officers who have worked tirelessly to ensure that our tenants have been able to get in to the Christmas spirit.
“On behalf of all staff, may I wish all our Sheltered Housing Scheme tenants a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.”
Sheltered Schemes offer a community environment for older people who want the independence of their own flat and front door, but with the added benefit of friendship and support.
There are current vacancies in many of the council’s schemes. For further information, call 01554 899259.Follow us on Facebook Follow us on Facebook
