The Manor Road Centre is based in Ammanford within a short distance from the town centre. The day centre specialises in providing a service for adults with learning and physical disabilities. The centre was opened in 1977 for adults with learning disabilities under the name Adult Training Centre. It became known as the Social Activity Centre in the early 1990’s, and is now called the 'Manor Road Centre' .
The centre is equipped and accessible for wheelchair users.
What we offer
- The centre has a Sensory Room fitted with specialist equipment which can be used for both stimulation and relaxation purposes.
- There is a Computer suite with adaptations and software designed for people with learning disabilities, in order to facilitate learning new skills and for creative art.
- There is a fully fitted kitchen, which is used to teach service users domestic skills and participate in cookery sessions.
- A dedicated room is provided for art and craftwork
- Indoor Activities include a pool table and boccia (a form of indoor bowls)
- Music therapy is an important part of peoples' lives and is particularly useful and enjoyable to people with learning disabilities. Music stimulates the senses and can also be used for relaxation purposes.
- Gardening is one of the activities carried out at the centre
Outings are organised so that service users can participate in community facilities such as Ten Pin Bowling, seeing a show at the theatre or visiting local scenic sites.
Shopping activities are also used as a social event as well as for learning necessary life skills.
