Colleagues,

You will be aware that despite the best efforts of headteachers many of our schools have closed because of the current inclement weather conditions.  However, you will also be aware of the growing anxiety, across the County, caused by such closures.

To ensure we keep as many of our schools open as possible, I have liaised with colleagues in the County's Technical Services Department with a view to gritting the main entrance areas to school buildings where this is practical.

I fully appreciate this will not resolve other difficulties such as those concerning school transport and other related issues but it should allow the vast majority of our buildings to remain open.
